Welcome to Azur with Peter

Welcome to Azur : People at the heart of science

At Azur Health Science, people are at the core of everything we do.

In this series, we introduce the team behind our scientific work—starting with our Medical Writing experts, who support clinical trials, regulatory documents, and scientific communication.

✨ Today, we’re happy to spotlight Peter Morgan, who shares his journey, his passions, and his role at Azur Health Science.

Peter we’re so glad to have you with us in Welcome to Azur!

Let’s beggin by getting to know your role and how you contribute to the team

I’m a senior medical writer. My role is to write the documents, and to provide mentoring and support to more junior writers.

What are the challenges of medical writing?

Medical writing naturally comes with deadlines, which can be tight. And you have to be able to multi-task and manage multiple projects at once.

For me personally, as a more introverted, classical writer-type of personality, I think trying to convince clients where they’re perhaps wrong, and pushing back against unreasonable requests is what I find most difficult. My natural inclination is to try and make it work and to keep the client happy, but this isn’t always the sensible option!

What do you enjoy the most about your job?

I like the variety of work. The different types of documents, different diseases, different clients. It’s important to me to feel like I’m learning and improving. I also like that the projects are comparatively short and defined, compared to when I was a researcher. Its satisfying to finish a project with a job well done.

What’s your journey so far?

I started out in neuroscience research, first a PhD then a couple of post-docs. I enjoyed that time, I always liked science and it gave me the opportunity to live in difference countries and experience different cultures, but eventually I wanted to move away from the lab and a life in academia didn’t appeal to me. I was looking for medical writing jobs and I found Sarah and Adrian.

I first contacted them asking for advice on how to make the jump to medical writing, which led to us making a podcast about that same subject, and then I joined them as an associate medical writer. I’ve been with Azur for a little over 4 years now, progressing to my current role of Senior medical writer, which I’ve been in for the past 2 years.

Why did you choose medical writing?

I like writing and I’d thought a lot about how to write well, and so when I decided that I wanted to move away from research it seemed like a natural fit.

What ispired you to work in rare diseases?

With rare diseases, I think maybe more than some other areas, you get a sense of the real, personal need for treatments, and from that the feeling that your work is worthwhile. Also, there’s a lot of variety within the field, so you’re always learning with each new project.

What are your hobbies and passions?

My main hobby now is dance – about 8 years ago I gave a ballet class a go, fell in love with it and have continued ever since. Other than that I like to keep active, running, swimming, cycling, hiking etc.

What are your hobbies and passions?

Hmmm, this is a difficult one. I’m not sure I have anything big that I specifically wish for, but if I only get one wish then wishing for small stuff feels like a waste! That said, I would like to be able to cook really well. I have a lot of cookbooks, but whenever I try to cook something vaguely complicated the end result never matches up to the effort put in, so I just fall back to my basics.
