Welcome to Azur: People at the heart of science

At Azur Health Science, people are at the core of everything we do.

Every day, our team brings expertise, curiosity, and dedication to advance research in rare diseases. Through this series, we shine a light on the individuals who contribute to our scientific mission, those whose work, passion, and stories shape Azur from the inside.

Each story highlights the diverse talents and perspectives that strengthen our culture and drive our commitment to scientific excellence. By getting to know the people behind the research, we celebrate the human side of innovation at Azur.

✨ Today, we’re delighted to introduce Yanis Labidi, who shares his journey, his inspirations, and his experience as part of the Azur Health Science team.

Yanis, we’re so glad to have you with us in Welcome to Azur!

Let’s begin by getting to know your role and how you contribute to the team

My role is to write, format, and review medical documents. No day really looks the same, but right now, what’s taking up most of my time is working on Clinical Trial Diversity Action Plans, or CTDAPs.

What led you to choose a career in medical writing, and when did you realize it was the right path for you?

When I was in high school, I first did a scientific baccalaureate because I was fond of sciences and curious about coding, but mathematics wasn’t quite for me.

I switched to a literary baccalaureate because I was also fond of letters, then did a bachelor’s degree in Applied Foreign Languages. During my Master’s degree in Technical and Scientific translation, I’ve had the opportunity to reconnect with sciences through courses such as biology and chemistry, as well as to translate various medical documents.

My internship at Azur Health Science confirmed my liking for the medical field: it field rewarding to know that our work will end up helping people.

Wich aspects of medical writing do you find the most demanding, and how do you tackle these challenge?

As a non-native English speaker, it can be difficult to know if something is well written or erroneous.

Medical phrasing in English doesn’t come naturally, so I try to read as much as possible.By making connections between different things I’ve read, I can come up with my own phrasing. When in doubt, I can ask my peers for a review, and the more I write, the more confident I feel about the decisions I take.

Are there any specific types of documents or projects that you particularly enjoy developing?

Generally, I like to develop documents that have a major impact on quality and efficiency, especially in the long run. This can be templates, work instructions, style guides, or quality control checklists. Currently, I’m enjoying CTDAPs a lot.

They have a quick turnaround and our CTDAP team is great.

Where you’re not working, what activities or interests help you relax and recharge?

As I spend quite a good amount of time immobile in front of a screen, I feel like I need the opposite to stay in shape: running, hiking, camping, exercising, playing board games, reading, etc. But I also like to watch movies from time to time.

Looking ahead, what would you like to accomplish or discover in your career as a medical writer?

I would love to learn about writing more types of documents and contribute to improving workflows.
