Welcome to Azur with Jane
Welcome to Azur : People at the heart of science
At Azur Health Science, people are at the core of everything we do.
In this series, we introduce the team behind our scientific work, starting with our Medical Writing experts, who support clinical trials, regulatory documents, and scientific communication.
✨ Today, we’re happy to spotlight Jane, who shares her journey, her passions, and her role at Azur Health Science.
Jane, we’re so glad to have you with us in Welcome to Azur!
Let’s begin by getting to know your role and how you contribute to the team
As a Senior Medical Writer specialising in epidemiology, I lead the development and writing of documents like Clinical Trial Diversity Action Plans, bringing in my epi expertise to shape how patient populations and data are presented.
More broadly, I support a range of regulatory and clinical documents. My role is really about making sure complex data are interpreted correctly and communicated clearly. I work closely with cross-functional teams to keep everything scientifically sound and aligned with the overall strategy.
What are the challenges of epidemiology-focused medical writing ?
Epidemiology can be tricky because the data are often complex and come from different sources or study designs.
Moreover, interpreting these datasets correctly, presenting the limitations, and building a clear narrative from sometimes messy or incomplete information is not always straightforward.
It takes a lot of careful analysis to make the science clear without oversimplifying it.
What do you enjoy the most about your job ?
I really enjoy the variety in the role. No two projects feel the same as I’m constantly learning about new indications and working with different teams, which keeps things interesting.
I also like the communication aspect. Taking complex scientific information and making it clear and well-structured, as well as analyzing data to tell a meaningful story. Seeing different types of documents come together is always satisfying.
What’s you journey so far ?
I completed my Master of Science in Population and Public Health at the University of British Columbia in Canada, then worked as a cohort research manager and epidemiologist, focusing on population-level research with diverse and often underserved groups.
That experience gave me a strong foundation in real-world evidence and data interpretation. After moving to France, I joined Azur as a medical writer. Over the past two years I’ve progressed to a Senior Medical Writer role, where I now combine my epidemiology expertise with regulatory strategy and writing.
Why did you choose to specialise in epidemiology?
I was drawn to epidemiology because it allows me to have a tangible impact on health at the population level.
I’m motivated by the ability to contribute to work that can improve outcomes and inform decisions that affect real people. I’ve always been interested in the “why” behind health outcomes (why certain populations are affected differently, how those patterns emerge, etc.)
Overall, Epidemiology gives you the tools to answer those questions in a structured way, which I found really compelling.
What inspired you to work in rare disease?
Rare diseases are particularly interesting from an epidemiology perspective because the data are often limited and require a more thoughtful approach.
I find it rewarding to work in an area where strong data interpretation and clear communication can really make a difference for smaller, often overlooked patient populations.
What are your hobbies and passions?
I’ve been horse riding for most of my life—something I started back home in Canada— and I’ve competed in Hunter/Jumper, which has taught me precision, focus, and discipline. I’m also a huge animal lover. I spend a lot of time with my dog and being outdoors, which reminds me of home.
I also enjoy creative writing. It gives me a different outlet for storytelling outside of scientific work.
A Big Thank You Jane
